Playa Blanca is a popular, family friendly beach resort at the southern end of the island. The resort has been carefully planned, so whilst extensive, it has retained a charming Canarian quality.
The attraction of this resort is the beaches and the marina. An attractive promenade, lined with cafes, shops and restaurants, runs the length of the resort, taking in 3 beaches. The white sandy beaches enjoy calm, clear bathing waters and between them are well serviced with typical tourist beach facilities.
The Marina Rubicon is a prestige development with many exclusive shops and boutiques, international restaurants, bars and cafe's. There are sports facilities, a diving and sailing school and of course the marina plus a number of fishing trips and boat trips. The Marina Rubicon has been designed with an array of bridges, floating terraces, ponds and gardens and is a pleasure to stroll around by day or by night.
There is an isolated but beautiful beach just outside of the resort, forming part of the national park, which can be reached on land or, more enjoyably, by water taxi from the harbour or as part of a boat or catamaran trip.
This resort has great views to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura and the islet of Lobos and, indeed, the ferry across to Corralejo, the main resort of Fuerteventura, only takes 20 minutes.

older more traditional shops and restaurants can be found along the seafront in the centre of the resort stretching to Punta Limones ...the quality of the scenery and architecture does justice to the claim that it's the islands most luxurious... The resort of Play Blanca was the third to be developed, situated on the Southern tip of Lanzarote. Playa Blanca does feel a little bit special, more up market than the first two resorts, this could be due to the fact that it isn't as old but probably more with the development which included building individual villas on larger plots and a good selection of 4 and 5 star hotels.
I like to walk around Marina Rubicón especially when combined with one of the market days, there is a lively atmosphere amongst the cobbled squares and exclusive shops. With a wide selection of café bars and restaurants it's my favourite spot for a lazy lunch or sundowner.
The older more traditional shops and restaurants can be found along the seafront in the centre of the resort stretching to Punta Limones and the old harbour where the ferry connects to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Here you can find traditional tapas bars as well as the everyday shops and supermarkets.
You can't stay in Playa Blanca without a visit to the spectacular beaches at Punta de Papagayo. Nestled under the splendid mountains Monumento Natural de Los Ajaches there is a choice of five main beaches including Caleta del Congrio, which is nudist and gay friendly. Papagayo is long walk from the resort it may be easier to take the water taxi or car for a chill out on these beaches.
There is a beautiful promenade stretching the length of Playa Blanca, I like to walk from the far end with the lighthouse at Faro de Pechiguera, taking in the beaches of Playa Flamingo and Play Dorada for a quick dip and stopping for a cool refreshment at one of the bars along the way.
Don't forget to use the circular bus service around the resort, you can hop on anywhere, it runs every half hour and costs 1 Euro.
There is some mystery surrounding Montaña Roja, the red mountain in Playa Blanca. UFO's have been reported as being sighted in this area on several occasions!
